R.J. Shook, Founder & President, SHOOK Research™; Founder & former President, Winner's Circle

Location: Boca Raton, FL
Education: B.S., Babson College

A native of Columbus, Ohio, Shook graduated from Babson College in Wellesley, MA and has been in the securities industry ever since.

As an expert in identifying success patterns and characteristics of the industry’s top producers, no one has accomplished as much in-depth studies in the financial services industry as R.J.

He started as a Financial Advisor at Prudential-Bache Securities in 1987, and spent a majority of his time on Wall Street in research. Along the way, he’s written 10 books, including six of his popular Winner’s Circle series, which feature the top financial advisors. He combined his experiences as a Financial Advisor and research, and built the world’s first research organization dedicated to researching and ranking advisors, called the Winner’s Circle. Rankings appeared in four annual cover stories in Barron’s, as well as 22 publications across the country. He also created the industry’s popular conferences—the Top Advisor Summit, Top Women’s, Top Independents. (The Winner’s Circle was acquired by Barron’s Magazine, a division of News Corp., in 2008).

R.J. then built Philanthropic Research Institute (PRI). PRI researches America’s biggest individual givers, and its ranking of top givers is featured in an annual Forbes feature story.

In 2015 R.J. decided to take his Financial Advisor research and rankings mainstream, and founded SHOOK Research, and partnered with Forbes Magazine. Rankings will be published in Forbes’ print magazines (readership: 6.8 million) and Forbes.com (70 million visitors/month). Partnerships have also been established with American Business Journals and other selected publications which will total nearly 50 local publications.

As a recognized authority on best practices in the financial services industry, R.J. enjoys sharing insights on top advisor best practices and the future of the industry.

SHOOK hosts national and local conferences with top advisors, with the missions of propagating best practices.
